Matthew: Alpha Playtest


Since I got ahead last week, this past week I primarily focused my energy on creating the passcode input system for the electric power box. I also assisted Lajeeth in coding scripts to check for level progression.

After making sure that the build was fully playable, we conducted a playtest using these things and received a lot of good feedback. Some things I observed included:

  • widen fan hitboxes in the barn
  • replace ladders with something that doesn't imply climbing
  • make outline around fan hitbox more clear
  • add fan shortcut to reach seller guy, or a checkpoint there. add more checkpoints in barn
  • add trigger zones that automatically point the camera in a certain recommended direction
  • add ui counter for pennies, rings, infinite jump get
  • add a few extra pennies
  • have camera not get stuck on level bounds
  • decrease camera smoothing in y direction
  • increase ring size, remove collision on ring
  • check turn animations at low speed
  • player can't jump after colliding with certain things

Generally speaking, players really enjoyed the music and the dialogue in the game.

For this coming week, we need to also get the right hand side of the map further developed. I will also need to put in a little bit of extra work completing the game's soundscape.
